Clients requirements
A review of a School’s finances indicated that they would be in a deficit budget situation. They had reviewed all other areas of spend but determined that, in order to address their deficit, they needed to review their staffing structure. As well as needing to address the financial needs, the School felt the current staffing structure was not aligned to best meet the needs of the pupils.
What we did
- Met with the Head Teacher and the Staffing Committee of the Governing Body to explain about the process of restructuring.
- Worked in conjunction with the Head Teacher and the Committee to explore different staffing model that would meet the School’s needs.
- Produced a business case which details the rationale, current structure, proposed structure, restructuring process and timetable.
- Consulted with trade unions and staff about the proposal and supported the Committee in reviewing the responses to the consultation.
- Facilitated the selection process including training for all staff on audit forms.
- Produced all relevant correspondence including redundancy estimates and formal notices of redundancy.
- Advised the Staffing and Appeals Committees throughout the process.
Outcome
The new staffing structure significantly contributed to addressing deficit budget situation. The new structure led to improved outcomes for the pupils as there were clear lines of accountability throughout the School, improved communication and an overall improved focus on the School’s main objectives, providing a world class education for their pupils.
